The trip I took in the summer of 2019 to Seoul, South Korea also included another non-profit organization I’m a part of, En Gedi. This organization is an orchestra of high schoolers who play their instruments as a group to raise funds to donate to the “drop-box” children of Seoul. Our mission is to bring joy through music to the San Diego community through various benefit concerts.
Every year, we send out a small group of the most talented musicians of the organization and this year, I had the pleasure of being one of those musicians and we received the opportunity to perform in an orphanage, a church, and a major hospital in Seoul.
It was such an amazing experience, and it felt different going into this trip knowing this is my mother country and the place where my heritage stems from. It felt like I was even more connected when I gave back to this Korean community that I had been raised in.
The kids at the orphanage were the highlight of this Cosmos Fields trip. They had such energy and enthusiasm, especially towards the music, that I felt incredibly blessed to be gifted with a talent that places a smile on another person’s face.
After the performance with En Gedi at the orphanage, I set up another time to meet and I distributed the clothes I received in San Diego.
